Lisa Funari Willever - Visited BC on April 30, 2014
We were excited to have native New Jersey author, Lisa Funari Willever, visit Brooks Crossing in the spring of 2014. Mrs. Willever is the author of the Nicky Fifth series. One of these books, Garden State Adventure, was named to the 2013-14 and 2005-6 New Jersey Battle of the Book List for Grades 3 and 4. Another book in the series, Nicky Fifth on 32 Dandelion Court was named to the 2009-10 and 2007-8 New Jersey Battle of the Book List for Grades 3 and 4 as well.
Mrs. Willever is also the author of several picture books. Several of these have been recognized with various children's book awards. Chumpkin was selected as one of First Lady, Laura Bush's, favorite children's books and displayed at the White House during the 2003 Holiday Season. Everybody Moos at Cows was featured on The Rosie O'Donnell Show in 2002. Click on Lisa Funari Williver's name above to visit her website.

High school freshman, Aara Chandrashekaran, is the most recent member of our BC student alumni to have a book published. As part of our 2014 Read Across America Celebration, Aara shared her book, A Matter of Time, with the BC students. Aara told students that the fantasy books she read while a student at Brooks contributed to her idea to write about a place where people could travel between worlds. Aara's book is available on Amazon, and all proceeds go to the Make a Wish Foundation.
As an eighth grade student at Crossroads Middle School, Brooks Crossing alumnus, Daniel Kim, visited us during our Read Across America Celebration in March 2013. Daniel shared his five-year journey of writing a third grade short story to several manuscript drafts to finally publishing his book, Allison: The Adventures of Three Ordinary Kids and an Extraordinary Alligator, While the writing started in third grade, the idea began during his first grade field trip to the Jenkinson's Aquarium in Point Pleasant, New Jersey. Daniel told his audience, anything can begin with an idea. For the complete story and more picture of Daniel's visit from the South Brunswick Patch, click on on the highlighted words.
